Captain won a rare toss and put Red Star into bat, and witnessed one of the great bowling performances of Stephen Heath — 5 wickets coming in in a few overs and forcing the match in our favour. Will Atherton bowled well for his three wickets, a prize performance on any other day! Batting commenced, with Tom Heath dashing at the crease, hooking basically everything. We kept ahead of the rate and Mr Wild resumed duties hitting an unbeaten 31 before retiring. Then a nice stressful collapse losing many wickets with only a run or two required. Stephen saved us again and got us over the line for a much needed win — a very clear man of the match performance and well earned pint!

The worst batting performance by Witham in memory? Jasper top scored with 12 as we fell all out for 50 — many ducks. Did amazingly well with the ball to make a game of it, aggressive in the field, and took some important wickets, but they got over the line with 5 overs to spare.

Bowling first Witham took important wickets, only Drury really threatening, although Mr Extras top scored for the opposition on a damp pitch. 138 the total with more rain threatening. After tea Witham began the chase with a trademark start of losing several wickets for very few runs, some unlucky, some not. James, Pat and Jasper kept us on target, but regular wickets set up a tense ending. Poor Alex couldn't hold out getting caught with 3 runs remaining — cricket the winner.

Batting first Shepherd, Lanning and Gibson all conceded their wickets for a solitary run between them, leaving us 3 for 3. David Heath resolutely held firm, and batted more than half the innings for 18, Arthur offered some resistance before getting out weirdly, and Keinan saved the day, hitting a robust 42. Cameos from the Evans children left us with 128 on the board. What followed was a masterclass in bowling — Chester Evans taking early wickets, followed by Stephen Heath. Arthur came on just before drinks and took 2 wickets for a single run, before taking a back seat again, and Keinan cleaned up the tail. All out for 69 — a great win, and most enjoyable.

A new touring side arrived in the village, and set about batting at a modest pace — Wills Wotton and Atherton taking steady wickets. 66 from 20 overs then slid at dramatic pace as some loose bowling and an aggressive 60 and 71 from their bats pushed them to a massive 228 after 35 — almost 11 an over! In reply we really needed Jules and Keinan to get post some runs, but both fell cheaply — Harry and Henry steadied the ship, and took on some of their bowling with Atherton, but all fell eventually leaving runs on the park and 121 all out in reply. The immaculate guest scorebook worthy of note also!

Having battled the rain, we managed to visit Winsley, and batted. Losing early wickets, notably Lanning for a duck, Alistair Aird accumulated some runs nicely, putting on 50 with Henry. Keinan came and left without bothering scorers, before Lanning made a second appearance, as we only had 10, hitting 26 not out, to make amends for his earlier performance — 132 posted, maybe defendable? Bowling was frustrating — many chances didn’t quite land, and somehow their opener retired on 51. We took wickets, but they also scored runs, and despite Keinan and Henry being fairly miserly at the end, we fell short as the drizzle resumed.

One of the fiercest rivalries in sport resumed at Batcombe, winning the toss and opting to bat our very own Ralph Batram batted well for 21 before one of their chaps took offence and smashed us around for 102 before retiring, and allowing us to lick our wounds. Keinan cleaning up the tail, leaving us 203 to chase. Will Wild continued his unblemished season, carrying his bat and anchoring the innings unbeaten on 62. Arther and Henry out for basically nothing, Sam came in and followed the opposition lead, smashing and enjoyable 76 and contributions from various others saw us over the line.

Tough game. George and debutant Alex got us off to a great start before retiring on 30 and being out for 24 respectively, then we got bogged own and couldn't seem to hit it off the square, ending on a very disappointing 99-2. Bowling was good, took wickets, and felt like it was on, before their skip came into bat and scored far too freely for a while. Opted for Charlotte's bowling far too late, and left too few runs on the board before they got them. 2 losses in a row for the first time this season.

The newly composed Ditcheat visited, won a critical toss, and put on a big batting display, posting just shy of 240. Our bowling toiled, but damp conditions and a dead ball offered up little resistance, as they batted very deep indeed. Highlight was James and Olive Evans claiming 6 wickets between them. We knew a 50 was needed from one of our better bats, but sadly none materialised — even the deadly Evans couldn't quite get over the line, falling for 48, the pick of the bats. 60 runs short, tired and well beaten.

Alistair Aird continued his fine form, retiring on 32, swiftly followed by another in form bat wielded by Will Will, following suit on 31. Notable other runs including a dashing 21 not out from wee George Evans. Bowling was shared around, but they didn't fall off the rate by any distance and was tense at the end, but Witham managed to claim the wickets required and record the win.

Batting first Witham looked to establish a big total — Will Wild opening with a swift 46, but subsequent batsmen struggled to find the middle, and despite 22 and 27 from Baker and George respectively posted 133, which felt 30 or so runs short of par. This was proven to be the case when the Witham bowling was attacked by Rode, two bats posting 48 and 43 to get the runs required with a few overs to spare. All good things come to an end.

Aird and J Evans provided lovely fifties before retirement, setting up another 200+ total, despite lovely bowling from George Wilcox on the other side for once. We then bowled really well — Steve Heath the pick of the bunch, having found his groove again. J Evans with an are appearance, ball in hand, picked up a couple to cement a man of the match performance.

Tight game! George batted well at the start, the pick of the batsmen, helped by Extras, posting a nervously low total. Managed to keep things pretty tight with the ball and keep them honest, Tom Heath the pick of the bowlers with 4-14. The rate required climbed, and pressure told as Batcombe fell all out in the last over.

Openers laid the foundations for a decent total before a flash 20-something from Pritchard forced the rate. A dynamic 44 not out the pick of the batting from James Evans. Fielding concerns arose they might get the runs required, but stellar spells from the two Georges — Hyde and Evans — quashed that, with 7 wickets between them.
